FLAMENCO IN THE REDWOODS

ANNUAL WORKSHOP/RETREAT

La Tania Flamenco Music & Dance is offering a week long series of classes involving the dance, music, and culture of southern Spain. The workshop will be held in the majestic California redwoods at the Mendocino Woodlands Outdoor Event Center, a historical landmark camp, located on the beautiful north coast. Instruction will be conducted by La Tania and company, a group of outstanding Spanish artists.

The workshop will include three levels of dance instruction and two levels of classes in guitar, cajon (percussion) and palmas (rhythm). Workshops in cante (singing) are also offered. The curriculum is structured to allow students to practice and rehearse with others at their level and be able to perform together at the weekend fiesta.

Participants have the options of housing in rustic redwood sleeping cabins each with a fireplace and balcony or camp among the trees and meadows in tents or R.V.’s. Hot water bath houses are conveniently located around the camp. Another option is to take advantage of more luxurious lodging in the seaside village of Mendocino. Three excellent meals daily, catered to the appetites of the active, will be served in the spacious main lodge dining room. Dance classes are held in a large wood floored dance studio complete with mirrors while other music classes take place in and around the main lodge. Evening gatherings for music and dance will take place in a forest amphitheater with a large fire pit and wooden stage for dance performance. A small but complete flamenco apparel and accessory shop will be open adjacent to the dance studio. The camp includes miles of hiking/biking trails and a pristine coastal river for swimming or relaxing on the beach.
